Technology and Product Transfer Chemist

Your task structure


Coordinate and execute the regional activities associated with technology and product transfers. This includes the raw material management approval process for new and existing raw materials and new product development transfers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute all raw material technical evaluations
  • Proactively interface with the global raw material management and regional purchasing, operations and regulatory departments on raw material approvals
  • Interface and support Purchasing/Sourcing on potential raw material opportunities to assess potential
  • Monitor the raw material approval process system and facilitate approval completion through continual communication with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Communicate raw material opportunities with the regional R&D technology groups and the global raw material management department
  • Perform chemical analysis and product synthesis for raw material evaluation
  • Communicate and coordinate with End Use and Technical Service teams to facilitate raw material specific product applications evaluations
  • Prepare an analytical data package, detailed material specification and supplier specification for raw material approvals
  • Provide technical feedback on material specifications and optimization opportunities to suppliers
  • Request key information from suppliers related to regulatory and packaging information
  • Coordinate SAP master data creation as needed
  • Coordinate new product development transfers with regional R&D Technology Groups and global Technology and Product Transfer team
  • Support the completion of technology transfer checklists with the regional R&D technology groups
  • Support production optimization for regional products
  • Work safely in a laboratory environment, actively participating in and complying with laboratory & company safety programs

Your recipe for success


  • Bachelor of Arts/Science in chemistry or related field
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience (post BA/BS) in Additives/Coatings (or related field)
  • Good problem solving abilities
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Open to international travel to receive technical training as needed

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Experience in multiple areas related to chemical procedures, product technologies, analytical methods, manufacturing processes, chemical and physical principles or laboratory procedures of importance to BYK products or processes
  • Proficient in organic, polymer and analytical chemistries
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the use of statistical techniques to analyze data and draw conclusions
  • Knowledge of physical and health hazards associated with chemicals and procedures to analyze and minimize the risks associated with them in a laboratory setting
  • Understanding of safety considerations and labeling procedures associated with chemicals in laboratories
  • Demonstrated capability to use computer programs for recording and analyzing data, generating reports and preparing presentations (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint etc., and including SAP or other ERP software)
  • Independently set up and conduct laboratory experiments/analysis for raw material evaluations and new product transfers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills/ability to work in a group environment and interface with departments across the organization
  • Capability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, and productively execute multiple experiments
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and apply statistical techniques to validate conclusions
  • Mechanical skills, ability to work with hands, strong attention to detail and analysis
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
